I have nothing more to add but simply show her work, and hope others will feel the same appreciation for her well crafted and researched work.

Great Advertising | Samsung or Iphone | To be or not to be?

I don’t usually endorse products let alone blog about them, but this add via Youtube caught my attention.  I don’t care what side of the fence you’re on, whether you’re pro Mac or not, it’s not important, I feel the people who developed this add have a great sense of humor and know how to use it, this to me is intelligent marketing!

Sally Mann

Sally Mann known for her black and white photography and beautifully crafted large scale prints. In my view, she approaches photography as a means to explore and provoke and uses the viewers energy to question. I find myself always questioning our own evolution as a species when looking at her work, especially when looking at her series, What Remains. Each photograph contains so much information, but to truly understand her work I feel you need to see it and read it as a series.  She has also been known to explore and use alternative photographic styles, such as the Collodion process.

Sally Mann is certainly one of my top favorite artists.

Now that I’m getting a little long in the tooth as a photographer, I’m thinking about starting my own advice column. ASK BIG ALWhat do you think?

In the meantime, here’s some inspiration:

Amanda Friedman | Night Landscapes

Quite a beautiful series, I feel you need to sit back and increase these photos as large as possible on your monitor  in order to get the full effect.  There are many subtle qualities in both composition, tone and colour.

My favorite series produced by Mr. Avedon, In The American West

Avedon died in 2004 and left us a great collection of photographic work. He was controversial, engaging, political, a humanist, philosopher, father, and much, much more.

Vanity Fair article on the Mater, Robert Frank’s Unsentimental Journey | Culture | Vanity Fair.

As the holiday season is approaching, I like to look at photographs that have and still inspire and motivate me.  The Americans is a poetic series, and somewhat brutal, honest portrayal of an  America coming to age. I think it would be great to see something similar today, in our century, about the stock market, the crash and where it leaves people today.

Jodi Bieber | Photographer

Jobi Bieber, South Africa, known for her World Press Photo of the year 2011, portrait of a young Afghan girl, Bibi Aisha who had her ears and nose sliced off under the orders of a Taliban commander. She was found seeking refuge at her parents home by the Taliban, and these are the resulting physical wounds after fleeing from her husband who violently mistreated her. I am glad to learn she is doing better, after attending a presentation by Jodi Bieber, held at Dawson College, Fall of 2011.
